About Our Program

Douglas Park Preschool strives to provide high quality, affordable and accessible child care to all children and families. The Preschool classes provide children with an environment that fosters a well-rounded social, learning, experience in a fun and safe space. Our enthusiastic, caring, ECE Licensed Professionals provide a warm, nurturing environment for children to play, learn and grow in.

The preschool program follows an Emergent Curriculum philosophy, it is play-based with programming initiated by the children's interest.

The program encourages exploration and creativity in a fun, stimulating, environment through art, music, dramatic/creative play and outdoor play. Other skills children will learn through social play within the classroom are math, science, creativity, literacy/language and problem solving. These skills are learned in the block area, at circle time, at free art and free play time.

Meet the Teachers

My name is Christine Moore and I am the Head Teacher for Douglas Park Preschool. For this Preschool year, I will be working in the Unicorn 3 year old class.
This is my seventh year at Douglas Park Preschool, and I have been in the childcare field for over twenty years. Throughout my career, I also  had the privilege to instruct adult students in Early Childhood Education both in Colleges and conducting workshops for professional development. In addition to my Early Childhood Education schooling, I graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of General Studies. Over the years, I have developed an Eclectic approach within ECE and thrive to maintain a  focus on meeting the  individual needs of each child.
I am originally from Vancouver and grew up near this community.  I have lived and worked in various other locations in BC.
Working with children continues to provide me joy and purpose each day. In my spare time, I like to be with my family and friends, travel, play games and watch great movies/shows.

My name is Maryam Baghaeyan and I am a teacher in the Orca Class, mornings and afternoons.  This is my third year teaching at Douglas Park Preschool.  I was born in Iran, and have been in the childcare field for almost 20 years. I completed my Early Childhood Education Diploma Program at Langara College and received a certificate in the Montessori method from  a London Teacher Training College in Iran.  I’m interested in educating the whole child, by offering a holistic approach to the inquiries that arise, and learning the unique way each child learns and explores. I believe that being an Early Childhood Educator made me a better mom. My son is now 12 years old. I work to model a respect for the world, the importance of strong relationships and the strengthening of diversity.  I like to exercise, play piano, read books, and enjoy listening to different podcasts about psychology.

My name is Kaila Olichny and this is my second year at Douglas Park Preschool. I am a teacher in the Unicorn room, morning and afternoons. I have been in the childcare field for over 12 years and I graduated with my ECE Certificate from Sternberg College in 2012. I love teaching Preschool and my passion is working with 3-5 year olds. Children are amazing and I love learning and exploring together with them. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, playing games, reading and eating good food.

My name is Jillian Hunt and this is my third year working at Douglas Park Preschool. This year, I will be a teacher in the Orca classes, and the Unicorn afternoon class. I completed my Early Childhood Education at George Brown College in Toronto.  I am deeply passionate about my role in supporting children learning in their own way and at their own pace. I have a special interest in neurodivergent brains and actively prioritize inclusion and a strength-based approach to teaching. My pedagogical philosophy is based on the view that children are invaluable resources in showing and teaching us who they are and how best they learn. In addition to my Early Childhood Education, I hold a Bachelor of Psychology from MacEwan University in Edmonton. I moved to Vancouver to be closer to family and have been enjoying exploring the beautiful natural spaces surrounding the city while trying my hand at foraging. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, water colour painting, learning the guitar, hiking and soccer.

My name is Kimberly Samson, and this is my third year employed with Douglas Park Community Centre. I have worked with the School Age Children Programs and led the Dinos Playroom. This year, I am excited to join the Preschool team as a Floater teacher. I have been working in childcare for three years and have over five years of volunteer experience with children. These experiences have deepened my passion for supporting children's growth and development. I completed my diploma in Flight Attending and Tourism Management in 2020 and I am currently pursuing my Early Childhood Education Diploma, which will be complete in February 2025. In my free time I enjoy traveling, paddle boarding with my family and baking!
